Laser printers were more expensive than inkjet printers, but now the cost has reduced a lot. There is not much difference between the cost of laser printer and the inkjet printer. The people are enjoying the high quality publications with these laser printers.
Laser toner cartridges
Laser toner cartridges were more expensive than the inkjet toner cartridges but they are capable of good quality output. They have the capacity to yield 4000 pages with coverage of 5%. Four toners are generally used in laser printers of various colors. These are
• Magenta
• Black
• Yellow
• Cyan
The important feature of it is that if one toner is used up, the other three can continue printing and no wastage of toner is there. A common effective trick that can be used is if particular toner cartridge appears to run out, open the printer, take out the cartridge, shake it well and then place it at its position, it will print hundred of copies for you. It is because sometimes the toner settles in the cartridge, which can be used after shaking. It extends the life of cartridges.
Are they cheaper?
If properly cared, the life of printer is considered to be about 5 years. Several people bring an identical printer along with the set of toner cartridges, which reduces their cost. The high quality, cost and sped are some of the major factors that has made it popular. These were expensive but now they are affordable. Though the initial investment of laser printer is greater than the inkjet printer
Anatomy of a toner cartridge
A laser toner cartridge contains the powder toner that releases ink and create prints on paper. These are generally made up of hard plastic and installed inside the rack.
Are they original?
Original equipment manufacturer (OEM) toner cartridges are designed by printer manufacturer. It functions only with some specific models of printer. These come with new laser printer. There are several compatible toner cartridges that use OEM parts. They meet the standards for OEM cartridges at a cheaper price. But they are made only for some specific brand.
Sometime recycle cartridge parts are assembled to form remanufactured laser toner cartridges. They are the cheapest cartridges but they are less reliable in terms of quality.
What to choose?
Few years ago, only the OEM toner cartridges were sold in the market but as the cheaper cartridges became available, people preferred to go for remanufactured and compatible laser toners. But it is said that OEM cartridges are best to use.
